Day 72: Makuru Season - The Rainy Days, Big Blankets, and Bush Tipple!

G'day, legends! Today we're diving into Makuru, the season when the rain kicks in, the land gets a good drink, and the Aussie bush turns into a natural waterpark. If you’re thinking, “Rain, mud, and wet socks? Sign me up!” then Makuru is your season. The ground’s lush, the bush tucker’s prime, and if you’re keen to brave the chilly nights, there’s plenty of adventure to be had!

Why Makuru is a Cracker of a Season

Makuru is all about growth, as the bush fills up with new plant life, animals are on the move, and the rivers start to flow. It’s the time to hunt and gather, with the wetlands and rivers brimming with fresh fish, and the land bursting with edible greens. On tour, you might spot birds nesting, little critters scurrying about, and if you’re lucky, catch sight of a roo or two testing out the damp turf!

Survival Tip #71: Master the “Makuru Mud-Skid” Technique

In Makuru, it’s slipperier than a croc in a kiddie pool! To survive the rain-soaked trails, you need the Makuru Mud-Skid Technique. Here’s the trick: when you start slipping, just go with it! Slide with your hands out for balance, yell “whoa!” for dramatic effect, and hope there’s a mate at the bottom to catch you. Bonus points if you make it down without ending up on your bum!

And don’t forget—Makuru calls for layers. Bring a big coat, wear thick socks, and BYO poncho. A good sense of humor and some solid boots will do wonders too. The bush may be wet, but so are the laughs!
