Day 71: Djeran Season - Chilly Mornings, Bush Tucker Delights, and How Not to Freeze! 🍃

G'day, adventurers! As Whoop Whoop Walk About rolls into Djeran, the season of cooler days, it’s time to swap sunburn for windburn and bring out the footy socks. If you’re thinking, “Finally, a break from Bunuru’s BBQ temps!” — you’re spot on! Djeran is all about crisp mornings, gusty winds, and a bush bursting with fresh tucker.

Why Djeran is Dinky-Di for Bush Exploring

For the Noongar people, Djeran is a season of gathering—both for foods and for cozying up around a fire. This is when bush medicine is in full swing, native plants like acacias and banksias bloom, and the land starts coming alive again after the heat. Birds are chirping, insects are buzzing, and it’s prime time to taste-test bush tucker (if you’re brave enough)!

Survival Tip #71: Embrace the “Bush Blanket Bungle” Technique

In Djeran, nights get cold enough to make a swag feel like an icebox. So here’s a trick that’s saved many a bushy from freezing their tail off: the Bush Blanket Bungle! First, make sure your blanket’s big enough to wrap yourself and a mate (just in case they forgot theirs). Layer up, burrito-style, but leave an arm free for essential tasks like tea sipping and roo-spotting. If you’re feeling fancy, throw in a couple of gum leaves for insulation and aroma—might just keep the mozzies at bay too!

Thinking of joining us for some fresh-air fun this season? Djeran’s got everything from bush flowers to belly-warming campfire stories.
