Day 41: Warby-Ovens National Park – Falls, Fails, and Aboriginal Legends

Day 42 - Whoop Whoop Walk About Tour Guide Diaries

Today, we ventured into the heart of Warby-Ovens National Park, exploring the rich Aboriginal history of the Kwat Kwat people and discovering the true meaning of "Warby" – named after the Warbidgebin or native cat. Which also was their totem.

With 12 eager tourists, we set out to experience the beauty and power of Pine Gully Falls and Salisbury Falls, nestled in the granitic hills and woodlands of the Warby Range.

After a few classic mishaps, including a boomerang toss gone rogue, we learned how these lands were sacred to the local Indigenous tribes. The rushing waters of Salisbury Falls represent the spirits speaking through nature – a humbling experience.

We finished the day at Kwat Kwat Lookout, where the stunning views of the Ovens Valley and Victorian Alps left us speechless, if only for a moment. Between laughs and fire-starting fails, we came together to appreciate the deep connection the Indigenous people have with the land.
